Day 8: @Home, taking care of Mum, who is sick today. Nearly fell for a classic housing scam while searching for a flat in Frankfurt, and learned important life lessons: there is no such thing as being too paranoid, English is probably not a second language in Manchester, and things that are too good to be true probably are. Felt my optimism and faith in humanity sag a bit. In dire need of spiritual Botox.
Purchased Let’s Go! Germany guide. Confused as to the variety of beers and wursts available in Germany, and have taken to muttering das Alphabet to myself, and stumbling over umlauts. Have picked up useful phrases such as ‘Hello!’ (Hallo!), ‘Where is the toilet?’ (Wo ist die Toilette?), ‘May I buy you a drink, darling?’ (Darf ich dir ein Getränk kaufen, Liebling?) and my personal favorite: ‘There is a disturbance in the force’ (Es gibt eine Störung in der Kraft.)
